Environmental engineering is the application of science and engineering principles to the environment, and the introduction of this in many different countries has changed the way that people live every day over the past decade. It is concerned with the quality of land, air and water, and the main task of an environmental engineer is to preserve and enhance the environment. To do this, several new methods have been transmitted into places across the globe, and these have altered human behaviour. For example, recycling has been introduced and encouraged widely, to try and persuade people to dispose of materials such as paper and glass in a specific way, so they can be destroyed and reshaped to form new, useful objects. As well as minimising the amount of non-degradable rubbish landfill sites, recycling has slightly affected human behaviour. My family, neighbourhood and I have become much more aware of the distinctions between recyclable and non-recyclable material, and have become more likely to take care in recycling the correct materials, so the minimal amount of resources is wasted. Also, humans are more aware of the fact that recycling is economically friendly; as less material has to be made from scratch, less fossil fuel to create substances such as plastic is being used, so it is aiding in sustainability. In addition, another example would be water treatment. Although people in higher income countries such as England take clean, available water for granted, other, lower income places such as sub-Saharan Africa have been introduced to it recently. Over the past ten years, this has changed their human behaviour drastically. Humans in the more developed areas of these poorer countries are beginning to become less worried about the quality of their water; they may drink it and become seriously ill (from water-borne diseases, for example, malaria or
