Reading books change their mind and maybe as well as their lives. The value of literacy does not only play a role on kids but also on adults. After surviving from the holocaust, it is hard and hurt for Wiesel to recall the memory of what he and others had suffered but he chose to write the history down to let it remembered. Alexie learned not only how to read but to love reading. He used his passion of reading to remove himself from the stereotype of being unintelligent Indian boy, push himself through the school system, and not to fail in life. The more they practice and the more teachers and parents instill this in their minds, the better they will become. Perfect practice, makes perfect. Most people would probably have trouble with trying to remember how they learned to read. I would have to say that I am a person who loves to read and I think that is it really an amazing thing. Also, I am someone who is involved in education and research and I think that it is amazing how learning to read is said to be a talent that it potentially impossible.
This was our last conflict during the story. With all the conflicts and differences I rate this 8. My mom helped me look at reading in a different light. She also helped me be a better analyst when I read books with a more complex storyline. I learned from all this that reading isn’t just reading the story.

My mind would get caught up in the narrative or the turns of the argument, and I’d spend hours strolling through the long stretches of prose (p. 67).’’ It’s an agreeable statement because there are times when you are trying to concentrate on reading an article on the computer and you get distracted from what you are reading. Opening up a new hardcover book is almost impossible for me.

Learning to Read Malcolm X tried very hard to educate himself because he wanted not only to teach himself how to read but he also wanted to be able to understand what he was reading . His simple reason for wanting this was his desire to write letters which accurately communicated his thoughts . Prison is where his curiousity occurred to learn to read and write. He met a man named Bimbi that had both street and book smarts. Malclom felt being like Bimbi would get him where he wanted to go.
According to King, why is it so necessary to read a lot and to write a lot in order to be a good writer? Reading like anything else takes practice. I think that what King was trying to say is that when a person reads frequently they start to get a better understanding of the craft of writing. From the development of characters, to the plot building and creating a colorful timeline of events, ones writing can only improve with more reading. Stephen King was saying that confidence in prose will grow along with reading.
When it comes to my approach to my weekly reading assignments within this course, I like to do my reading one chapter at a time. I find this method particularly effective for me, especially if I have multiple chapters to read. I do not like to read more than one chapter at a given sitting so that I will not overburden myself with information. On the other hand, I do not like to read less than a chapter when I sit down and read college material. If I stop in the middle of a chapter, I may lose my place and the information may not get absorbed completely.
What is reading rhetorically? When you read rhetorically “you engage in this kind of reading, you look for the rhetorical strategies of the writer -- the patterns, structures, figures, & methods that a writer uses in order to make her/his point. This kind of reading can, in turn, help you to strategize your own approach to creating effective texts for particular audiences and purposes” (Malea Powell 1) Thorough out this semester we have reviewed several rhetorical readings. Although in the beginning, I never quite understood what the author was truly trying to say, but now I do. Understanding this form of reading can be very helpful in my future education.
