The Influence of Visual Media The visual entertainment media has shaped our country in a radical way. Media has influenced our society in such a way that many of us most wonder if it is for the better or worst. For the most part we should believe it has been for the better. Television has brought us closer to a vast new world that is out there. Since the beginning of the television era we have experienced history in the making therefore opening our eyes to the world. We have been able to visualize the horrible effects of war but also experience the exciting events like seeing the first man on the moon. The movie industry had shown us as well, the thrills of action movies like the Die Hard trilogy, to the wonders of science fiction with Star Wars. It has also opened our eyes to the sad reality of the destructive patterns we have with animals and nature. For example the movie The Cove, it is based on the ugly truth of dolphin hunting. It has in some way influence the American culture and values. Motivating us to look for ways to improve and make a change for our future. It is the reason why we join movements like go green and save the dolphins. “Seeing these images made the events and struggles more “real” to a nation of viewers and helped garner support for the movement.” (Bedford / St. Martin’s) Therefore whether media has encourage us to be the first man on mars, the next American idol, becoming the biggest looser, or more importantly joining peace core and saving our planet. The effects of visual media have thought us to respond, care and strive to make a change as a society for the better of our American culture. “So getting that immediate response is a huge thing, but it's a digital connection and digital channel that allows you to do that.”(Bedford / St. Martin’s, chapter 5, Pg. 145) However, visual media has exposed us to some of the negative aspects
