One of the key responsibilities I feel for a teacher is to provide information, wisdom. In order to share their knowledge and understanding of a subject or topic a teacher needs to have a deep understanding of the topic that they are teaching. However alongside this a teacher should not claim to know it all, and be willing to learn from their students. ‘Knowledge may be seen as a level of awareness, consciousness or familiarity gained by experience, learning or thinking.’ (Jarvis 1987). It is important that the teacher appreciate any input from their students, whether the answer is correct or not.
As a teacher, one of the main roles is to motivate your learners to develop their ability and aspiration to learn. Some may read about delivering training and facilitating learning , but in reality a teacher does much more than that. A teaching role is not just about teaching your subject or preparing learners for assessment. The focus of a teaching role relates very much to inspiring learners to change and develop their personal, social and professional skills to the best of their ability. In this respect, the ultimate aim is to enable learners to understand how to take responsibility for their own development.

Standardized tests have come to a point where they run the lives of students and teachers alike. The point here is to convey the misuse of today’s standardized testing and its impact on young minds. Verbalising and exploring a learners thoughts can assist them gain a positive perspective of their own work and ability and will also help identify problem areas, therefore providing both the teacher and the learner with the ability to develop e.g. asking a learner where they think they did well and where they think they could improve. Some situations in which constructive feedback is required can include; ongoing performance discussions, providing specific performance pointers, following up on teaching discussions, providing correct guidance, providing a learner with consequences of their behaviour. Clues at when constructive feedback is needed can be when a learner asks for your opinion on how they are doing, this can be a 'cry for help' from a learner.
Myah Clark Professor Collier English112.SMRT 2 21 November 2014 Essay #2 Public Schooling: Draining Students of their Freedom and Creativity In John Taylor Gatto’s “Against School”, he explains how he thinks public education cripples our kids and why. He starts his article out by making a point that both the students and teachers are suffering from boredom. The students also pointed out the fact that the teachers didn’t seem to know much more about what was being taught then the students themselves. On the other side of the spectrum the teachers are just as bored because they feel the students are rude and only interested in the grades. He then continues on to say that we shouldn’t blame the teachers or the students; in this case, we should blame ourselves.
Communication is Key Paulo Freire’s wrote about how both students and teachers need to communicate more in order to improve the quality of learning environment. This excerpt also seems to be directed towards all teachers. “Education is suffering from narration sickness.” (Para 1) Freire gets straight to the point with that sentence as his thesis statement. He explains how teachers are “motionless” and that they need to spice up their teaching style. Good communication is the way to resolve issues with the way students are being taught.
However, snitching is just a part of everyday school life. You will always have those students that will be more worried about others than themselves. When a student becomes more focused on getting others in trouble, there usually is an underlying issue. Therefore, the way to approach this form of misbehavior is to pull the student aside and talk to them. Remind them of the rules, and how to worry about themselves.

Different people adjust to different strategies. Most people adjust to more than one strategy. We just need to identify which ones through assessment. How the Awareness of Learning Strategies Influence Teaching and Learning It is important for teachers to understand what a student is going through in their process of learning new information. If you know the learning style of the student, it is easier to convey the message you are trying to convey.
Wayson also spoke about teacher student relations and how to open your classroom for more effective learning. He talked about not embarrassing a student, but in turn seeking alternate ways of getting your message across. This is something that we have touched on throughout the course, but something I feel to be very important. I think its imperative that as teachers we think about what our actions have the power to do. At the elementary level, we are shaping how students feel about themselves which can affect them the rest of their lives.
