The Importance of Writing Writing is a key to our mind. We express our feelings, thoughts, opinions, and beliefs through writing, and it shows who we are as people. Everyone has different values and ideas; therefore, each person has a unique writing style. Since English is my second language, I used to find writing in English extremely challenging; however, I have less difficulties with it now after some practice. Some people are better at writing; however, it is a skill that anyone can improve by practicing. Many people are not aware of the importance and power of writing. They find writing boring and time consuming, and the only reason they would want to work on their writing skills is to meet the requirements for their college courses. However, at some point in life, we all have to be able to write well whether it is for a boss, a professor, a friend, or different groups of people In a lot of college courses, the instructor requires students to write an essay on a topic related to the course. The purpose for that is usually to improve student’s critical thinking while giving them an opportunity to express their opinions and ideas. Last semester, for my psychology class, I needed to write eight to ten pages on behavioral science. It took me a month to get it done, but if it wasn’t because of that paper, I would end up getting a C in the class rather than an A. I’m sure that I will have to write a lot of essays on different topics for my classes during my college life. Therefore, it is important for me to practice and learn as much skills as I can. History has been transferred to us mostly by people’s writings. If it wasn’t because of writings, letters, and papers from the past, we would not know about a lot of the incidents that happened in the past.
