Garvling once said, “to read is to fly: it is to soar to a point of vantage which gives a view over wide terrains of history, human variety, ideas, shared experience and the fruits of many inquiries.” In today’s modern world knowledge is power and the ability to obtain knowledge is essential to life itself. There are no shortcuts around society razor sharp teeth and unmerciful clinch; however with reading you can overcome the most challenging task and progress into your successful future. Reading is an outlet for the soul and also away to escape and express thoughts through feelings, experiences, and symbolic gestures. You as a reader should use reading as a tool to reach heights that no one has ever dared to go. The power of reading is so exponential that it can be used to understand the concepts of life, and comprehending what it takes to be successful in your everyday life. It can be used to reach a new level of wisdom that is impossible to take away. Reading can be compared to a sail boat traveling down am vast river; ever flowing fast and full of spontaneous elements that serve as monumental stepping stones that are there to help the boat along the way. As Americans living in this free country we are oppressed, but also boosted by the influence of knowledge. He or she has to have the tenacity and drive to want to obtain the free knowledge that our country has to offer. On the contrary, not having the ability to read can be detrimental to not only yourself but others as well. There are no definite methods or procedures to skipping around society and its boundless changes. You have to be driven by self ambition and self desire in order to progress and ultimately move through life in a positive, yet successful way.
