The Importance of Privacy MORLEY So you may be thinking what relevance does 'the importance of privacy' have? And to be perfectly honest, so were we when given this topic. But after actually looking into it we've realised that in fact it has a great deal more significance to every single one of us than you may think. (Show video) LUKE Okay so that video was a pretty standard cheesey American video but it did illustrate a good point. Privacy is seen as something every human should be entitled to. It's something that allows us all to maintain our individuality and preserve the secrecy of our own thoughts and feelings. Of course it is true that no-one can disturb the privacy of these last two, but true privacy extends far beyond that. In fact, the right to privacy itself encompasses a whole variety of things, from the right to the privacy or personal or sensitive information to the privacy of our communications. In the day and age we live in this is particularly important considering how almost all of us frequently use our phones and indeed Facebook. You'll notice when you're on Facebook that privacy is actually an important feature of it. You may not have even realised the array of customizable options for privacy Facebook has, such as who can view your photos for example. Most recently I'm sure most of you have heard of the phone hacking scandals in which journalists have hacked the phones of those they are reporting on to extract private information from them. This story has the right to privacy at it's core. MORLEY But why is privacy so important? Does it matter who can see our photos or who can hear what we're saying? The short answer is yes. Not only is privacy important for our own safety, but privacy and spending time on our own is important for all of us, not just to collect our thoughts but also to get away from the banter we enjoy with our
