Pay in the NCAA Lots of revenue is brought into the NCAA from the sports especially the big sports such as football and basketball. Since the beginning of the NCAA there have been lots of questions about the rules and regulation of the organization; but the most controversial topic has to be whether or not college’s athletes should be paid. It seems like it would be the right thing to do since they are bringing in all the money but that would not be a smart decision. Money would be cut from a lot of the other college programs and small sport organizations. Also because of the Title IX law, it would be too hard to compensate for everyone. The recruiting would be unfair and lean too much towards richer schools that can pay for more.…show more content…
If a school so happened to be a billion dollar school and another school was just a million dollar school its is obvious which school would be able to pay more players more money, therefore everyone would want to attend big money colleges because they offer more literally. So basically if this were to happen sports would get boring because you would always know that the rich schools will be the powerhouse schools and win in everything constantly it would make the competition very dull. College’s athletes are in college to learn first and play football second, if they would receive pay to play statistics show that their grades will lower substantially. It’s just not a smart thing to do because throwing money at college students would never come out positive; it honestly spells trouble; especially when “70% of students who have jobs and go to college have lower grades than those who don’t.” Giving them pay would turn it into a job and make school the extracurricular activity and that’s not what these sports are about. All in all college students should not receive pay. A full ride scholarship and living at school for free can sum up to be a six figure payment. If you don’t believe me just ask the other students there that have to pay out of pocket or take out loans that they are never able to pay back.
