THE IMPORTANCE OF ORGANIC AND INDUSTRIAL FARMING The Importance of Organic and Industrial Farming English 135 October 16, 2011 When I was a young boy growing up in Tuscaloosa Alabama I never gave it much thought were my food came from. As I grew, I started helping my father, grandfather, uncles and cousins in the field. Picking corn, peas, greens and sometimes watermelons I also, help harvest hay and fed livestock. I learned that it took a lot of work to get food to the table and to appreciate that. When I joined the Navy and came home to visit after 10 years I noticed a lot of things have changed. A lot of the farms that I grew up around were gone and a lot of that land was turned into housing. Some of the places where a lot of livestock was gracing were gone in change into shopping malls. Don't get me wrong I do understand, as time goes on our society is still moving forward and growing. The small farmers of yesterday cannot keep up with the demands of today. This is where we rely on industrial farming because, is cheaper to the average consumer and to streamline so it makes it easier to get it’s coast-to-coast. Half of our society will agree with this and accept industrial farming. But, the other half does not and thinks that industrial farming is inhumane and also a danger to us as a society. This part of our society chooses organic farming because this is more humane to animals in our environment. Even though, both organic and industrial have their drawbacks I believe they are both equally important to our society. Organic farming is an agricultural system that seeks to provide us the consumer, with fresh, tasty and authentic food while respecting natural life-cycle systems.
