After reading the book I have realized just because you don’t have that new LG slide phone or that bright fluorescent I-pod you have always dreamed about. Doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. What I do have is a loving family and friends. Perdita had none of those things. She was adopted when she was only young, her foster parents always fight and on top of that the whole school classifies her as a freak!
Money in The Great Gatsby Daisy Buchanan, Tom Buchanan, Jordan Baker, and Jay Gatsby were your typical 1920’s socialites In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. These characters battle greater love for money or a love for each other. Daisy has spent her whole life being a rich, spoiled socialite. So when she met Gatsby before he had made his money she knew she had to block out her feelings for him. Daisy had been raised to marry for money and keep her family’s name involved in old money and lavish events.
Her friends wouldn’t talk to her, and everyone ignored her. No one wants to listen to Melinda’s explanation, and she doesn’t even feel like talking to anyone about that night. She is keeping everything she wants to say bottled up inside her and because of this she has no friends. When she goes for the first day of high school she has no one to sit with. Her best friend Rachel didn’t even sit with Melinda that day.
So by the time I entered the ninth grade, I was flunking out of high school. I failed world geography, civics, Spanish and English. When you fail Spanish and English, they do not consider you bilingual. They consider you bi-ignorant because you can’t speak in any language. And that’s where I found myself.
After his mother dies he states that he never visited her, “…because it took up my Sunday- not to mention the trouble of getting to the bus, buying tickets, and spending two hours traveling”(5). He wasn’t even willing to go she his mother when she was in a rest home. He tries to excuse himself by blaming it on technicalities. However, no Sunday is as important as bonding with an aging mother. He obviously was never close to her, due to his lack of wanting to visit her.
She later got married with Tom Buchanan a wealthy man. Daisy was never completely satisfied her husband was cheating on her, but the she met up with Gatsby again through her cousin Nick years later. After a while of them catching up and fooling around, Daisy ran over her husband's mistress with Gatsby's car, so she decided to leave Gatsby with the blame and go back to her husband. “With every word she was drawing further and further into herself, so
These were the questions I solicited answers to for my entire life. Ever since I can recall, I had always been that chubby little girl in the family and had always struggled with my weight. I was never athletic or notable for anything. In school, my grades were satisfactory, but never as good as I desired them to be. I had low self-esteem growing up because
I never caught a break. I contemplated suicide many times. I would have been completely fine with taking my own life, but how selfish would that have been of me? My family is the most important thing in the world to me, and I would never put them through something like that. I tolerated the bulling every day until one day, in my senior year, Dick didn't show up to school for a whole week.
We hugged and I left. *2 Months Later* I attend school at Mobile City Middle School. Everyone thinks I am strange and no one talks to me. Mr. and Mrs. Williams think I am a shy girl; all I asked for from them were books. I felt loved, but was depressed.
45 minutes had passed, when we had finally reached the halfway point, crowded in an underground tunnel with really no option of going back and the end no where in sight was starting to take it’s toll on not only our group but on everyone else as well, especially the mother with two whining children. “May I have your attention please” the intercom boomed. “This ride has been temporarily shut down due to weather conditions, but will begin again shortly”.
