The search for the American dream has been alive in the imagination of American immigrants since the nation’s birth. Many people have been inspired by the belief that in the United States hard work coordinates prosperity and social mobility. Despite being a relatively new country with an abundance of land and resources, the United States is seen as a land of opportunity, where there is enough for every single one of its residents. Due to its economic wealth and great middle class, immigrants come to the United States to study in its universities or to work in the leading industries of the market for wages generally greater than those available in their countries of origin. Unemployment and low paying jobs, especially in rural zones, drive people to see the necessity to immigrate to different countries. They immigrate with the hope of finding honest jobs and a higher quality of living for their families. Insecurity also drives people from their countries. Mexico has had a considerable increase in crime rate. Assaults, ransoms, kidnappings, drug trafficking, and organized crime in general are some of the most common in the country. Every day people face the risk that a loved one might become a victim of these terrible crimes. The people simply do not feel safe in their own country anymore, resulting in them deciding to leave it for a fresh start. Extreme poverty adds to the list of reasons why people immigrate to the United States. Poverty in Mexico has also increased in recent years. The main reason we decided to leave our beloved home country for the United States was for my older brother, who has Cerebral Palsy. In Mexico, there simply wasn’t the required services my brother needed. Physical therapy, doctor visits, and surgeries would only be within grasp if we were in the higher class. All these services are very expensive and as a result, we would’ve never been able to give my brother the best possible treatment for his condition. Education was another big factor in my parent’s decision to come to America. In Mexico, the public education system is very, very poor. The administration, the teachers, and even the students are well below par with America’s public education. Frankly, the only way to get a quality education is to pay for it by going to private school. In contrast, American public education is a quality education while private school is an extraordinary
