I guess I was blind to see how teachers have to teach and how they teach. Back in my day when I went to school teachers cared and tried to keep the students from not being bored and keep us engaged. Now that both my girls are in school. I think it’s bad for the teachers and the students cause all they have is test after test that last for weeks just to prove where our kids stand with the rest of the nation or in the county. She understands that people come from different environments and everyone can learn; they just need to be motivated. Mary once blamed the poor academic skills the students have today on things like drugs and divorce for poor motivation and concentration. She describes starting the day with concentration principles buy the way she walks into her class. If her style of teaching doesn’t work then she will fail the student. Mary’s son a High School senior was in the jeopardy of flunking English.
A handful of students mouthed off about how their junior English teacher, Mrs. Thornton, hardly ever gave out hard assignments. As class went on Mandrell was pelted with more and more complaints about how her class was stressing the students to a level where they could not really focus on their assignments. All the class came together in unison and agreed that she was assigning them too much work. After some serious thought Mandrell concluded that maybe a change in the way the class was taught would release some of the stress put on the students and take away the worries of focusing on grades (380). After Mandrell was burdened with the complaints of her class, she went home to meditate on the day’s new found conclusion: the students thought her class was a nightmare.
It was something I was forced to do as a punishment. If I never had to write another paper it would be too soon, I thought to myself. I finally finished the paper and thought about having to read it in front of the class the next day. I was filled with anxiety about this and dreaded going to school that day. I sat in class and tried to be as obscure as I could, hoping that the teacher had forgotten about me reading my paper to the class.
Of course you’re going to get teased, picked on, and called stupid. Not saying it’s right, but you control your own destiny. Meaning you control the work you do because you do it and turn it in. Also being over age for their classes can result in dropping out. Studies show that students who are over-age for their class was held back a grade level.
It was sensitive of the teacher to consider any language barrier by having translators present at this speech. By staying after school until 8pm the teacher is giving an opportunity to all of her students and parents to have a chance to come by personally after work to have a meeting. If the teacher cannot make herself available to her students parents she is less likely to be affective. By giving out handouts it can act as an icebreaker for some parents, as well as, more importantly continue to help parents feel more directly involved with their childs education. I believe the affect a translator has on parents is obvious, for parents of students who are learning English themselves it is paramount to any real communication.
Like a normal human being the student started to panic. So at the end of class he politely asked for extra credit, and the teacher in return said, no. Although in college you don’t receive extra credit he deserves some extra credit to make up for the mistakes the teacher had made. Another reason why teachers should acquire failing students with extra credit is that perhaps the students may of missed many days of school prior to being sick or injured. However, if your a student that misses a day of school, you should get the make up work and you should catch up to the rest of the class on your own.
* Attendance * I have to call roll for the first couple of days for administrative purposes, but I will not take formal attendance. * You’re adults and you can make your own decisions about coming to class; plus I get that things happen sometimes. * Just know that you should try to be in class as much as possible because: * You will miss notes and about 70% of the exams come from lecture * You also risk missing exercises/daily work, which cannot be made up * Blackboard * Syllabus, handouts, exam reviews, study materials, and your grades will be posted here * Note, Blackboard Grades tries to give a calculated total, but this is inaccurate because I have to drop grades * Everyone familiar with how BB works? (need to pull it up and show
Every ones talking about cranky teens when in reality we are just over stressed and not getting enough sleep. These days it seems like teachers are having competitions with each other to see who can give the most homework therefore; students are having a hard time doing extracurricular activities and balancing homework all in one night. All of these issues have one cause to blame and that my friend is homework. And that is why as students, we believe that homework should be abolished. Life of a student is a very stressful one, as you drag yourself to school around 7:40 you desperately try to find friends that have completed a large sum of the mound of homework we were given the day before.
I tried to keep focus but my solitude was starting to become unbearable. Yes there were many students around but they all seemed to have their own network since they knew their classmates from their previous schools while all of my friends were in regular ed classes. I started to rebel and slacked off so much that teachers began to wonder why i was in a advanced class since they thought i couldn't hack their work load when in reality all i wanted to do was be placed in regular ed just to be with my friends. Odd and dumb reason, i know but I didn't know that at the time. Eventually I was moved from classes due to my insubordination and i was content at the time.
