When working in a team environment, you need to be a team player and offer information and knowledge whenever possible, get along with several members of staff and show respect. A supporting and friendly environment will ensure that you (as a team) provide the best possible service to the needs of everyone. The positive and supportive working environment will facilitate and ensure the physical, social, emotional, language and intellectual area of the child is met. This will also assist in managing any transitions. Excellent working relationships and good communication can make it rewarding to all team members and achieve job satisfaction for all.
1.1 Identify the different reasons people communicate Children need to express their needs to share ideas and information they need to reassure how to build relationships and socialise. They need to ask questions and share their experiences. Communication is really important in order to establish and maintain relationships with children, we need to give and receive information and instructions, and we should understand and be understood to share our opinions, knowledge, feelings and emotions. We should give encouragement and show others that they are valued. Communication is an essential tool because the members of staff can use this to meet the needs of children because it is a basic requirement of a job role to communicate with individuals
Effective Communication is important with pupils because it maintains a good relationship between the Teaching and the pupil when developing these positive relationships. Children want to be in an honest and trustworthy environment. If they don’t feel that they can trust you they will find it hard to approach you and this could affect the child’s learning. Having a positive relationship will allow the child to feel more comfortable around the T/A which will inevitably create a good learning atmosphere for everyone. You are taught these skills as soon as you start through basic training and placed in different types of communication such as verbal communication e.g. shouting to get someone’s attention, non-verbal communication e.g. body or sign language and visual communication e.g. writing or drawing picture to get your message across.
Effective communication is fundamental in developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults alike. In the role of Classroom Assistant it is vital to develop good, appropriate relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and any other professional third party agencies involved in a child’s care and education. To provide a conducive learning environment, adults in the classroom must work together by communicating clearly and professionally with each other, both verbally and non-verbally. This will avoid confusion and inconsistency during lessons. For example I find it essential to discuss the day’s lesson plan and targets with my class teacher.

It is important to establish positive communication to gain trust. Children who see adults communicating with each other and other children in a positive manner are more likely to learn positive and effective communication skills themselves. For example, it is important to check what we are saying or how we are acting and in times of stress or excitement, and display conversations, mannerisms, body language and behaviour that we expect from the children. Effective communication with parents ensures that they are confident in the school and their child’s learning, which in turn is passed on to the child.
Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults. Understand the principles of developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults. Effective communication is important in order to build positive relationships , we should always check how we approach and respond to other people as we are more likely to have better relationships if we communicate well with one another. Parents and other adults that come into school are more likely to give better support if communication is strong and effective in turn this benefits the children we work with. It is also important for the children that we model effective communication skills, this means checking what we are saying in moments of stress or excitement, we ask the children to behave in a certain way when communicating and sometimes forget that ourselves if we do this they will struggle to understand the boundaries of what is acceptable.
1 - Be able to develop positive relationships with children and young people | | 1.3 - evaluate own effectiveness in building relationships with children or young people | | It is important to have positive relationships with children to help build a child’s self-esteem and confidence and also to give them a feeling of acceptance within their new environment. It is very important to not only gain the trust of a child, but to also build on that trust so the child feels comfortable and protected whilst in your care. When building positive relationships with children you need to listen to the child and learn how they communicate and express their feelings and how they show their emotions so that the child feels that they are understood. It is good to praise children and encourage them and not to be critical or negative towards them. To maintain a positive relationship with children, there is a need for the child to understand that you will be there for them to listen to and work through any problems in a calm and relaxed manner.
1.2 Relationship building is important when working with children and young people. The way this is done is by being a positive role model. The young person must feel comfortable when I am helping/supporting the young person with work. When working with children I have to make sure that when working with then that I use easy to understand words. Towards children I must show a caring approach and listen to them when they are asking me question and make eye contact so they know that I am listening to them.
This is good way to get answers from others especially if you’re like me and doing your training in childcare or other subjects. Communication is important when you answer questions. For me it is important to be able to answer questions my assessor or other professionals are asking me and to also explain about my work. There are lots of different ways to communicate. It is a very important key thing especially in childcare especially if you have a child with special needs.
