Location 3 (low tide mark) has many biotic pressures such as wave action, fluctuations in water temperature and predators. Barnacles have many physical adaptations to cope living in this area. They have a tough, hydrodynamic shell, which allows them to withstand the constant pounding of the waves when the tides are high. The shell is also strong to protect themselves from predators that come across the area. In addition Barnacles secrete a cement.
While I was doing research, I identified the species I found. The primary producers were Nori Seaweed, Black Pine, and Coral Weed. The sessile consumers consisted of Mussels, Acorn Barnacles, and Goose Neck Barnacles. The mobile consumers happen to be Whelks, Chiton, Starfish, and Green Crabs and they
The Effects of Temperature on the Swimming Behavior of Daphnia Introduction: Plankton play a large role in the ecosystem. Plankton are aquatic organisms that exist in innumerable different regions of aquatic environments. They can be utilized as a food source for other planktons, large aquatic animals, and other animals. Since they are at the pedestal of the food chain, they are important since they fill the base of the ecosystems they exist in. Many zooplanktons are also ectothermic which means temperature can highly affect metabolism and growth (Jalal et al., 2013).
There are many different species of Algae which can range in size from microscopic to a couple meters long. Phytoplankton is at the bottom of the food chain and is eaten by small crustaceans which are called Zooplanktons. Zooplanktons are eaten by fish, invertebrates, mollusks, ducks, and turtles. • Plants: Around fifty species of food and shelter providing plants- Plants along with Algae provide the Rideau River with oxygen. Some of the plants in the Rideau River are carnivorous.
Organism Physiology: The Octopus Cheryl A. Williams BIO/101 April 5, 2012 Dr. Jeff Batten Organism Physiology: The Octopus The cephalopod, better known as the octopus, is a marine animal, which dwells in countless diverse areas of the ocean. Food resources for the octopus consist of a variety of small fish, crabs, mussels, clams, and additional sea creatures. A predatory animal like the octopus adapts to its environment. By doing so, the octopus develops a variety of skills, which help the creature survive. The octopus depends on several of its vital organs to survive, such as the brain, ink sack, and arms.
Fred Thompson Zoology 2/19/13 Heart Rate of Blackworms Experiment Introduction Blackworms are a species of worm that typically lives in shallow water habitats. They feed on microscopic organisms and organic matter. The scientific name for Blackworms is Lumbriculus variegatus and their classification is as follows: Kingdom: Animalia, Phylum: Annelida, Class: Clitellata, Subclass: Oligochaeta, Order Lumbriculida, Family Lumbriculidae and Genus: Lumbriculus (Svahn, 2009). An adult black worm can have anywhere from 130 segments to 250 segments. These segments are capable of forming a completely new black worm when detached from the host body, and in most Blackworms is the primary for of siring offspring.
Menhaden play an important ecological role on the Atlantic coast. Menhaden are filter feeders, feeding on both phytoplankton and zooplankton. The menhaden’s filter feeding also helps to limit algal blooms by removing excess nitrogen and phosphorous. It also helps clarify the water, allowing plats to grow. The plants release dissolved oxygen and harbor fish and shellfish (Franklin, 2001).
The Northern Snakehead can survive up to four days out of water and can grow up to 33 inches long. The species has been nicknamed “Frankenfish” due to its shark-like teeth and aggressiveness. It was first introduced in a pond in Crofton, Maryland in June 2002. Researchers believe the species ended up in the U.S. due to uncaring disposal of aquarium pets. Other researchers think some people were trying to breed Snakeheads as they bring a large amount of money in some areas.

An estimated 73,000 cases of infection and 61 deaths occur in the United States each year. Infection often leads occasionally to kidney failure. Most illness has been associated with eating undercooked, contaminated ground beef. Escherichia coli are used in order to synthesize DNA and proteins. E.coli are thought to make vitamin K in the intestine , this vitamin is important in blood clotting
