The importance of college Where would the world be without our man Mr. Bill Gates? Many people want to someday be like him, so they attend college. The truth many may not know is that Bill Gates attended Harvard College for only two years and ended up dropping out. College can not always be for everyone but most students should be encouraged to attend for various reasons. Career and vocational paths should as well be encouraged to allow the students to experiment and expand their knowledge on what they may already know. Most colleges focus on what is not clear to the naked eye. They try and most of the time succeed on embracing knowledge to most of their students on materials they most likely will not need in their career, for example I am currently learning in my biology class how to differentiate a plant cell from an animal cell. In the career path I would like pursue, this information will not be applied. College is not for everyone because there are alternative ways to succeed in life without an education. Many workers in the USA such as electricians, and car mechanics do not need a four year degree but yet earn more than the average college grad. For some they see college as a big waste of money in a degree they will not use, or just time wasted, but for some it is an incredible experience and succeed in what they wanted. College is for some but not for everyone. A person could earn as much and much more than a college grad by not attending college. My fathers’ friend who dropped out of high school at age sixteen ended up working at McDonalds and decided to stay there for a few years. As time went by he ended becoming supervisor, assistant manager, manager and at the end he ended up buying his own McDonalds. Now he makes a six figure salary. All students should be encouraged to attend because at the end of everything college is the smart way to go.
