“ A Mission Statement’s Importance and the Best Approach” When owning your own business you understand the importance of having goals and standards stated clearly. You need to know what your business wants to achieve and how to go about it. This is where many businesses fail. Businesses fail to write these goals and standards out or rush this process and overlook many details. There are many reasons why a mission statement is important to the success of a company. Two reasons why a mission statement is important to any company are to define a purpose and program roles; clearly see what outcomes your company hopes to attain and how this will be done, and to address issues; decision makers may not know how to address certain issues that may develop. A mission statement will help a company define, plan, manage their organization and yield success. Understanding why your company exists, what outcomes are desired from it, why those outcomes are valuable, what products or services will be offered, who will be served by the program, and other issues of importance are key to the success of your company because it allows the company to clearly see what outcomes you hope your company attains and how answering these questions will get you there (Rothwell). A mission statement can also help decision makers to address issues and plan and mange better during these times. Seeing how the company functions and knowing in detail the mission and purpose will allow these leaders to make better decisions when there needs be. Also, mission statements may help more than just the leaders/decision-makers in the company, but other organizational functions like operations, finance, marketing, or personnel.
