Aaron Devor explores how these factors, gender behavior and various entertainments, potentially affect everyone in “Becoming member of society: Learning the social meanings of gender.” Not only do Kilbourne’s ads ridicule men by showing the obsession of males, but also the other two authors show how other modern society’s entertainments are meant to ridicule men and most importantly women with their acts of violence and sexuality. The males are the majority species that get hurt through music we hear and programs we watch, whereas advertisements hurt females. The entertainments substantially imply most men are violent, and the advertisements imply women as material objects. In A sense, men and women learning the consequences of violence and sexuality in daily life would help them to find a common ground with another built on respect and compassion because both genders are getting hurt
Many of the ads today give an image that in order to be happy and satisfied in life you have to be sexual or look sexy to get ahead. These ads are giving the wrong impression to our very fragile and susceptible young women. I believe
My opinion of the movie “The Mack” is that it sheds a negative light on young black women and men. It clearly gave the impression that all women are hoes and black men can’t live the good life without pimping or selling crack. Young urban minorities watch television and movies and they see the glitz and glamour think it’s cool and want the fame. Goldie who considered himself to be a “hero” but in reality he was toxic, he was a villain, he was a murder, a drug dealer and a pimp. I would have to say that his brother was more so “The hero” but of course the movie had little focus on that.
Curley’s wife is portrayed as being a whore – but this is only due to the way she dresses, her provocative ways and the way she acts around men, as if she is aware of her femininity. This could suggest that she is only like this because she is bored, like it is something to do – something interesting for a change. She is constantly trying to get people to notice her. But, because of Lennie’s purity and innocence, he doesn’t see her in the way other men do – a sexual object. When Steinbeck quotes “And because she had confided in him, she moved closer to Lennie and sat beside him”, it is clear to the audience that Curley’s Wife is using her sexuality as an object to create some sort of excitement for herself.
It is a known cultural difference that men usually dominate the world. There are many times when women are abused that they do not file charges against their assailants. Some of the governing assumptions that strengthen the mainstream explanation of the intimate abuse that many women face are as follows: First, men batter women because they are privileged, physically, financially, and socially; it is under the assumption in this belief that we need not understand the violence behind men’s violence beyond that point of the patriarchal explanation. Second, women stay in abusive relationships because of patriarchy. Third, the criminal justice system is sexist.
One of the ways this is illustrated through is in the second stanza he describes her as being ‘slapped up’. The onomatopoeic phrase suggests men’s sarcastic prejudice view on women as sexual objects; it also emphasizes the challenges the girl is facing in men’s attitudes toward her. Larkin also humiliates the girl by describing the obscene disfigurement to the image of her ‘huge tits... A tuberous cock and balls’. The taboo language helps to demonstrate more than just adolescent immaturity but deliberate and repeated attempts to degrade her by a kind of visual rape. However one could also argue that Larkin seems to justify violence against women by suggesting that access to women is something men have been unfairly deprived of.
Serial killers are rarely thought of as women. Perhaps this fallacy is based on the stereotype of women being delicate and sympathetic. For these barbarous killers, often the pretense of nurturing minimized any and all suspicions, but these women are just as immoral as their male counterparts. Patriarchal society is, by definition, male-centered, male-identified, and male-dominated (Johnson 24). Within the notion of male domination is the approval of male violence to implement male domination (Hooks 48).
We have youth killing each other over money, girls, and cars. This is all because music perceives these things to be best, and if you have those things, they make you somebody, but in reality, these are just material things that the media wants you to believe is the best. Former multi milliaiare artist such as Swiss beats and bowwow, have gone bankrupt because they pay a down payment on a Ferrari, but wont have enough money to pay child support. These amazing artists fell under the influence of their own rap music, and it messed them up in the long term. The youth of the city of Memphis has one of the biggest problems of being influenced by the genre of hip-hop.
However what had formerly been viewed as a charity program aimed at helping helpless mothers, and females, was now being seen as a waste of time and money. America’s increasing economic problem caused great resentment toward welfare programs and to their recipients. White middle class America did not like the ideas of their tax money going to support other, especially when many of the white middle class had full time jobs. Nationalized reports of welfare fraud were all it took to convince the middle class that all welfare recipients were lying and cheating the system. Americans who felt overtaxed had something to blame it on now the more they resented welfare the worse the stereotype became, soon they were all drug users, who never intended to work just live off welfare, and the only reason that their children were starving is that they were spending the money on other things.

People were drinking alcohol instead of supporting their families, mostly men were drinking. On January 16th, 1919 the 18th amendment of the constitution was ratified, prohibition in the United States was a law. Banning of alcohol only made things worse by increasing organized crime, violence, and corruption among law enforcement officials during the next decade. The 18th amendment contributed to the rise of organized crime because it created a lot of underground business.
