The Impact of Pornography on Society In 2007 the porn industry worldwide generated an estimate of $ Twenty billion. Furthermore, global income in this industry dropped by 50% due to an increase amount of free porn available on the internet (Halyes, 2014). Pornography is harmful to society; therefore the government should cease it and render it illegal. In general, porn is degrading to women and presents them as inferior to men; as a country that believes in equal human rights such images are disgraceful. According to statistics the porn industry does not provide a safe and healthy work environment as a result their employees are constantly put at risk for their life. It is not a coincidence that people who watch porn on a regular basic struggle with depression. In that case pornography is related mental health illnesses. Pornography is destructive to people, especially toward women. The reason why women are threatened is because the porn industry’s target market attracts mostly men. That being said, the industry focuses more on what arouses men. What stimulates men could be anything from spitting, choking to even beating them. That being said man is presented as dominant while the female is viewed as vulnerable. This sends the wrong message to the viewer from a young age on how women should be treated. It’s common to find categories of rape, humiliation, crying, submission, gang rape and punishment on a typical porn website. In such categories the woman is clearly presented as a sex slave instead of a human being with dignity. It is immoral that women should be subordinated by men for the fulfillment of their fantasies and desires. It is only human nature to feel a sense of satisfaction by perceiving oneself as superior to another. The porn industry uses this technique in favor of men while distorting the woman’s image.
