For this book report, I read the book, The Hunger Games. It is a Future Fiction novel written by Suzanne Collins. This is book one of a three part series The book is set in the future where there are 12 districts that are ruled and governed by one central power city called The Capitol. Every year a male and a female are chosen from each district to compete in The Hunger Games. Competitors are forced to kill each other in order to survive and there may only be one winner.
In the book the “Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins which had been made into a great movie in Hollywood. The plot of the hunger games can be describes as an event that every year the Capitol of Panem hosts an event called the Hunger Games where two "tributes" (a boy and a girl) are drafted from each of the twelve districts to be brought to an arena and fight to the death. Only one person can win. This is to remind the country not to rebel and also this is for entertainment too. This year, unfortunately, Katniss's little sister is selected for the Hunger Games, so Katniss volunteers to take her place.
For the Hunger Games, the start of violence is when two people, a boy and a girl, gets selected, from each of the 12 districts, out of a box at the reaping to see who would join the Hunger Games that year. The Hunger Games is when 12 girls and 12 boys from all of the districts go into an arena to fight to their death. The two contestants train and try to gain sponsors. After training, they are sent into the Hunger Games to fight the battle between life and death. In this society, we never would have actual reality show where people would really die, but its basically what’s going on, people are acting as if it‘s a game.
The Role of the Hunger Games By Duane Collins In order to understand the role of the Hunger Games, one must look at how the Hunger Games began. At the time of the first book in this series, there had been 73 previous Hunger Games “events.” The Hunger Games was an annual event orchestrated by the Capitol to remind each of the 12 Districts of the past rebellion that had taken place many years prior, referred to as the “Dark Days” in the series. As an ongoing punishment for the rebellion, the Capitol required each District to provide one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 years old. These two were selected by lottery and were referred to as tributes. The tributes had to fight to the death in an outdoor arena controlled by the Capitol, until only one of them remained.

The people who live in Capitol are the wealthy and government employees; whereas the people of the districts are mostly impoverished or middle working class. As punishment for a nearly century old uprising revolt each district must allow two children between the ages of twelve and eighteen years old, one girl and one boy, to be chosen in a drawing to go to Capitol to participate in the “hunger games”. This is a sure fire death sentence for 23 of those children, as there can only be one victor, and it is a battle to the death.
