The Grocery Shopping Process Grocery shopping can be a good or bad experience depending on the person and how organized they may or may not be. If a person chooses to follow a reliable process, the experience can prove enjoyable. It is important to know where to begin and how to achieve your end result. A good process begins with an inventory of groceries on hand, a list of necessary item to purchase, an approximate dollar amount, the actual grocery store shopping, and finally storing it all away. First and perhaps most important is to decide what meals you will be making for the week including, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with snacks or others you may want to consume. After comprising this list, you should carefully take inventory of what items you have on hand. In order to do this, you must check the refrigerator, freezer, and all food storage cabinets, carefully noting what is needed. This list can be broken down further by separating meats and frozen goods from packaged and can goods. Next, estimate the dollar values to ensure you can afford all of your items. In estimating the approximate dollar values, you should write the estimated cost right next to each item. For example; “3lbs ground beef - $10”, “2pks rice-a-roni - $2.50”, etc. These items may also be written down according to categories which may coincide with the grocery aisles. If you find that you do not have enough money to cover the entire list, you will need to cut back by deleting a few items. Deletion should be done according to priority. Now you are ready to go grocery shopping. Upon entering the grocery store and getting a hold of a basket, you want to start at one end of the store and go up each isle until you reach the entire other end.
