The Great Awakening: Pioneer to religious freedom The Great awakening has several parts to it. I will be discussing the second Great Awakening in colonial America. Times were tough, war was everywhere. The colonies were growing rapidly. The need for slavery was growing at breakneck speed. The church was slowly seeping from every day life. People were in need of some guidance. Youngsters were frequently going on night walks and frequenting the taverns. They were use to getting guidance from parents and local leaders, but the times had changed and the guidance was not there as it once was. Along with the lack of church in everyday life there was a push for individuality. Then great speakers and spiritual leaders came in and swept the nation.
