Animals were strong symbols in the Olmec religion. They practiced the animistic religion of shamanism, the belief that all things, whether animate or imamate, had an animal spirit. Mayas believed that every aspect of nature was controlled by a separate god. They even believed that each day had its own god. 1 Because of this, Mayas strived to live a life that would follow the cycles of the universe, in conjunction with the cycles of time.

Hercules exiled himself because of the shame that he had brought on himself through his lack of sanity. Hercules decided to ask the Delphic Oracle what he should do to regain his honor. The Oracle told Hercules to go to Eurystheus, king of Mycenae, and serve him for twelve years.

She commanded her father to let the bull of heaven free to wreak havoc amongst Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh, along with his friend Enkidu, goes into battle against the bull and end up slaying the beast. Enkidu was then punished for slaying of the bull. He suffered for 12 days, then later died. After his death, Gilgamesh then realized that death would be slowly approaching him.

A triad is the grouping gods into groups of threes. A triad would include a god, his wife, and one of their children. “The most popular triad was that of Osiris, Isis and their son Horus.” (http://www.ancient-egypt.org) This group was praised and worshipped in the city of the sun, Heliopolis. The local deities became doubtful; many of them were taken over from foreign religions or some were just naturally animal gods in prehistoric Africa.
