Some patterns must exist in our daily life, in a modern day greatly benefited from technological advancement. My own experience as an example. Every day after work I return home taking subway, which would save me hours' time on traffic. Having cocked my delicious dinner with microwave oven in a few minutes, I would turn on TV for news around the world. And even though I finish the whole day's work load, I still need to stay hours beside computer to study new skills and expertise knowledge to keep up with trend. It seems like that my life, and I presume it is the same with many other people, is compelling by some force, some technological force that not only save our time on trivial things but also ask for more time on everything. Why is that? Perhaps we should first look at the nature of technological advancement, which can be viewed as the progresses of production methods and working approaches that are brought up with by progress of scientific researches. Throughout history, it is technological advancement that contributes to promoting social productivity and thus living standards of humans. Ever since our ancestors mastered the way of making fire, the way that humans live on this planet has been changed greatly. Technological advancement is always featured by promoted efficiency, which can doubtlessly save a great deal of time. The symbolic invention at the first stage of Industrial Revolution, the Spinning Jenny, indicated that technological advancement could replace human labor in more efficient ways. However, increased efficiency does not necessarily guarantee more leisure time. On the contrary, in most cases, it spurs a society with busier paces. With fewer time to do a same procedure, the possibility to finish more things would hardly be missed.
