There are valid reasons to think that raising content standards is the answer, and there are equally valid concerns about the practice, and some evidence that it may actually be harmful to student progress. As educators, I believe it is our duty to research these ideas fully and make sure that our teaching practices both follow the law and reflect our beliefs about how to best educate the our students. He believed that in order for effective learning to occur, the student and teacher must both take responsibility as well as devote effort into the education process. Both the authors gained education different ways. Rose is now a teacher and a writer. Malcolm X was the Minister of the Nation of Islam and later left this group and formed the Muslim Mosque and an organization of Afro-American Unity. In the two essays, "I just wanna be average" by Mike Rose and "Learning to Read" by Malcolm X, both show personal experiences of how they educated themselves.

Actually if you take an open minded love for man-kind, mix it with a great understanding of humanity, add honesty, integrity and a pinch of belief.... that would be a great start! The trick would be getting the politicians and the leaders of this great country to follow the recipe. Then you must consider if this will make the biggest impact on our society?
Although our work has been validated by a research scholar and eminent writer such as Rose, what is most important is how this book is put to use. Readers of this book will come away with a renewed faith in the possibilities of public education. But they must not stop there. There are those in our society who would prefer not to have to pay for the education of the poor, the disenfranchised, the nonconformists. There are those who wish to portray public education as a failed experiment.
Being forced to conform to fit society varies obviously in degrees. Huck was being bettered by Widow Douglas and Miss Watson, even though he did not realize it. He just saw himself being forced to do things he did not want to, and the represented Mark Twain's viewpoint on society. Khaled Hosseini talks about the more serious issues of today's society involving the Taliban. For them, they have evidently put a major focus on what they see Islam as.
This boosts the individual’s self-esteem and promotes community cohesion. Mirza supports this view with her research on identity amongst young Muslims. She demonstrates how the later generations of young Muslims have created a strong identity within Islam as a form of cultural defence against British foreign policy. Muslims saw British foreign policies at the beginning of the 21st century, such as the Iraq and Afghanistan invasions, as anti-Islamic. To defend themselves against these Western ideas they reasserted the defence of their culture and religion.

Compared to the other articles in my annotated bibliography I would say this is the best one because it details many specific facts on children and the sacrifices they make for their
The stance of education reform and curriculum examination is clearly echoed through “Arts of the Contact Zone” by Mary Louise Pratt as well as throughout “Lies My Teacher Told Me” by James W. Loewen. The possibilities of positive effects resulting from changes to either of these aspects of learning are outlined within these works, but no attention is paid to the cost that may occur. The cost I’m referring to of course is the affect that extended knowledge could have on the traditions that take place in a large percentage of homes across America. Despite the evident need for improvement in the current education system, we need to consider a solution that provides the most improvement with the least amount of social distortion. Although a large percentage of holidays commonly practiced show some form of historical inaccuracy, I will primarily focus on the tradition
Select one issue that affects American youth today and which has constitutional dimensions. Examine the context and the details of this debate, analyzing both sides of the debate. What resolution do you feel is best for you personally and for the nation? Choose from the following. • the school’s right to monitor your email and internet use • the schools’ right to dictate and implement a dress code • your right to refuse to stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance • your right to practice your religion as a public school student – through prayer, school clubs, class presentations, etc.
Therefore, instead of squandering federal money into programs that have ceased to end homelessness for the past 23 years, it would serve best to commence funding elsewhere, mainly educational programs and homeless awareness programs. If children learn of homeless prevention and the benefits of secondary education from an early age, they will be much more likely to reap the rewards of such education. Serious reform must take place within “The No Child Left Behind Act”, however. It is imperative that the United States break away from the traditional standardized test focused curriculum, shift focus their curriculums to critical thinking, and problem solving, using exams that require students to conduct research and scientific investigations, solve complex real-world problems and defend their ideas orally and in writing. Changes in education are directly tied in to how successful a child will be in school and thus out of school.
