The four functions of management are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. The following paper discusses the four functions of management, and also explains how each function relates to my own organization. The first function of management is planning. Planning is the most important aspect of all functions of management.
Verizon: External/Internal Factors MGT/330 January 28, 2012 Verizon: External/Internal Factors The four functions of management continue to guide Verizon through internal and external factors successfully. Of course, management needs to work creatively in problem solving and execute all the four functions in order to attain the objectives and goals in a way that the cost of accomplishment is viable for the company. Some of the internal and external factors that Verizon must effectively and efficiently guide themselves through are globalization, technology, innovation, diversity, and ethics. Verizon will need to continually adjust how they use the four functions of management to handle the strategic, tactical and operational decisions for the organization, and a crucial tool that Verizon uses to do so is delegation. How Internal and External Factors Affect the Four Functions of Management Like many others successful organizations, Verizon still stands on the four functions of management (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling) to guide them into the future.
It involves modeling the vision, forming teams, influencing them and aligning people to achieve the set goals. Leadership bears the responsibility of inspiring people and producing meaningful changes in the company. Leadership is therefore responsible for positioning people and organizations in the right positions. A good leader has the ability to articulate a vision and assign the right people the right tasks based on their talents. Leaders motivate their subordinates and in return obtain outstanding results from their employees.
An operations manager is a person who runs the operations of a business daily. This position is responsible for efficient and effective measures. The operations manager must continue to find ways to make the company more efficient and profitable. I am best suited for this position because of my strong work ethic, organization, and motivation skills. The company will benefit from my motivation to get the job done and my organization skills to put everything in place.
Also having a clear understanding of customer expectations and values is essential, as they are important to meet the demands and thus assists the organisation in achieving their personal goals. As well as customer demands and product development, observing and learning within the industry assists in determining direction and avoiding any mistakes. Simple standards that would be expected by me on the ways in which I organise my time and management of all tasks would be my position as to who I report to, what my daily today tasks are and what it reports are expected from me throughout the day. Knowledge would be an impact on me when it comes to managing time. This is because it prioritises me to set my tasks from important to less important.
Unit 201 Work in a Business Environment Outcome 2: Understand how to behave in a way that supports effective working Assessment Criteria 2.1 and 2.2 The purpose and benefits of agreeing and setting high standards for my work is for me to produce quality, high standard work that is on time, accurate and professional. It allows for me to show my interest for my work and job role I am fulfilling. It will help to show me in a good light and avoid leaving a poor impression of myself. To help set the high standards for myself I can speak to the manager to discuss what the standards are for the company and what I am required to do to implement this. I can also review pass work to gain a further understanding and feel for what standards are expected for employees of the company.
Goals give direction, energize and challenge people to complete a task and promote creative ways of getting the job done. The Scanlon plan is the right idea for motivating employees; it just needs to be modified to increase
Goals The main goal of this position is to place the organization under a microscope and define areas of improvement and productivity. This position is directly in line with the mission of the organization because implementation of processes and monitoring the progress is essential to the growth and development. Exploring potential problems in practices and procedure can be useful to the infrastructure of the organization. Impact on Productivity This position has a direct impact on productivity as it sole existence is based on analyzing the controls in the organization and defining if they are productive in accordance to the mission.
