But it wasn’t until I watched Food Inc., that my perception of the food industry shift and I started to watch out for what I eat. Food Inc. is a documentary by Robert Kenner that exposes the secrets that the food industry hides from the public. The documentary uses contrasting images of an ideal country life with the harsh truth of the food factories with their unsanitary conditions. By using horrific scenes, interviews, testimonials, and many other ways to convince their audience that the food industry does not have our best interest. Food Inc. affectively convinces the audience with the use of logos, ethos, and pathos, that there are problems within the food industry that are negatively affecting everyone’s lives thus we should take action against big businesses in the food industry.

I learned that the major food companies are using genetically modified organisms (gmos) to make food faster, cheaper, and when it is not in season. The companies change the diets of the animals they are going to sloter because it is cheaper and it is easier to get the wrong food than it is to get the right food for the animals. The Government is not going to do anything about what is going on because a lot of the people that work in Washington used to heads of the companies that they are supossed to be going after. The Fast Food Industry is responsible for obesity in America as they have many fast food restaurants typically many within a small radius providing cheap easy solutions to societies hunger. David Zinczenko, a writer for The New York Times, describes marketing powers in his assessment "Don't Blame the Eater" he states that just about all fast food restaurants falsely advertise their foods and pass to many as a "healthy" meal choice but little do people know is that they are still extremely unhealthy foods that should not be included in anybody's diet what so ever. There has been many varieties of marketing techniques developed over the years of the fast food industry's attempts to persuade others to eat at their establishments. The fact that the foods they are extremely unhealthy for people of all ages from kids to adults is helping to cause obesity throughout America although some may be aware of the risks the average American still continues to eat out at fast food establishments along with the family giving the fast food industry a chance to get the entire family hooked for life. Although part of the industry's functions is to sell their products, I think the consumers play a large role in their profits to keep these restaurants in business. Obesity has become a serious problem in America, including children. But who is to blame? Is it the kids, fast food, or the advertisements you see on television? Daniel Weintraub, author of “The Battle Against Fast Food Begins in the Home”, states his opinion that it is the parents’ fault. I completely agree with Weintraub and believe that they should take more responsibility.
Since insurance companies are not supposed to make an obese persons insurance premium higher than a healthy individual, then that obese person’s heart attack drives up the insurance premium of the healthy person. The obese are making it everyone’s problem by not putting down that cheeseburger because they know that the government is paying for their anti-cholesterol medicine. Balko claims that the government is getting “between you and your waistline” meaning that the government is interfering by telling Americans what we can and cannot do with our health. Congress is now considering menu-labeling which means that restaurants would have to send every menu item to the laboratory for nutritional testing. Meaning that the restaurants would not have the freedom to put whatever they want on the menu.
But is this true? As we can truly say, nutritionism is not actually benefiting society in general because it lacks real food, it’s more expensive, and causes many diseases; however, nutritionism can be very successful for the world of business of industries. When we talk about real food, it means recognizable, good quality, whole food that rots when it's kept for too long. These foods are the ones our ancestors used to eat on a regular basis until it was replaced with a whole new type of nutrition one, in which chemically-infused, food- like materials focused mainly on nutritional facts. For example, when we go in the supermarket to buy food we read the facts in the back of the product checking what types nutrition it has, and how much it has.
Genetically Modified Food can be accepted Nowadays, with technology’s developing, more and more Genetically Modified (GM) Foods are produced and come out in many markets around the world. However, there are a great number of people who think the GM foods are dangerous and may do harm to their health. Therefore, they can’t accept GM foods. Unfortunately, I believe that GM foods are available in our lives because they have never been proven to harm people so far, they are more nutritious than traditional foods somewhat and they also can benefit farmers a lot for their working procedures actually. Professor Ian Campbell from Australia's Peter MacCallum Cancer Center says that no scientific evidence showing that GM food is harmful to people's health has been presented to date.
