The Fault in Our Stars book report In this book, John Green takes us to into a world of a sixteen year old girl’s life battling cancer and falling in love despite her views on love. The main character’s name is Hazel, who is fighting thyroid cancer. Her cancer is terminal, meaning she will die at some point in time. She says her best friends are her parents and a book called Imperial Infliction, which she claims is almost as perfect as the Bible. Her parents believe she is depressed, so they send her to a Support Group where many other cancer patients gather. One boy in the support group’s name is Isaac, who has a rare cancer in his eyes; this causing him to have one real eye and one glass eye. One day at support group, Isaac brings a boy with him, whose name is Augustus. Augustus is the boy Hazel will fall in love with. During this support group session, Hazel can’t help to notice Augustus staring at her. Augustus states he had cancer but no longer has it, but his cancer took his leg with it. By the end of the session, Augustus is trying to woo Hazel into coming to his house to see the movie ‘V for Vendetta’ because he believes Hazel looks like Natalie Portman. Hazel agrees, being oddly interested in the boy, goes to his house to see the movie. Upon arriving to his house, he begins to ask her questions about herself—her story, her likes, her dislikes. He then asks her what her favorite book is. She is afraid to share this detail with him because she believes if she tells him ‘Imperial Affliction’ it won’t be “her” book anymore. Despite her doubts, she tells him and he oddly enough wants to read it and states she’ll have to read a book that he has chosen for her while he reads ‘Imperial Affliction.’ For a few days after this moment, Hazel hears nothing from Augustus, until she finishes the book he has given her. She calls him and he begins to rave about
