Charleena Hendly is an actress who performed in many hit movies until she decides to move back to Culpepper her hometown for a little break. She was very tired of making movies and also recovering from her heartbreak of her husband cheated on her for a model and left her. After all that she has her little helper Macon who cleans the house and does many of her errands around the town, So Macon friend of Foster introduces her to Miss. Charleena and one day Macon is so sick with a fever he cannot go at her house so he sends foster to substitute for him while he is sick. That’s when Foster gets a paper with many chores for her to do around the house given by Miss.
Then when she grows up she has a baby and Madame Valmonde goes to visit her and her baby. Armand, being a slave owner when realizes that the baby is not white meaning that Desiree is not white he tells her to leave the house. Desiree feels sad and desperate because of the situation and writes to her mom for help. She tells Desiree to come home with her baby. Later on, Armand burns anything that belongs to Desiree and feels like he doesn’t love her anymore just because the shame she brought to his family.
An example of a functional conflict was between ray and his mother. She needed him to come over and mow the lawn for the party. But ray was already too busy to help his mother. He was unavailable and he tried to explain and suggested to call his brother but he was also unavailable. He felt guilty but made arrangements to have a neighbor come by and assist his mother his mother was not enthusiastic about the idea.
He lives with his mum and her boyfriend in a trailer park due to his dead end job. His family doubt this potential and don’t offer him a great deal of support to achieve his dreams. Life does start to look brighter when he meets an old friend called Wink who has contacts who can get Jimmy deal to record a demo of his music that can possibly lead to a rap career. He also meets a girl called Alex who he starts to develop feelings for however this shadow of hope that entered his life soon disappears, as he is portrayed by Wink
She wants her sons father to rekindle their relationship and for them to be a family. She also wants to start taking classes at a community college but her mother or boyfriend are not supportive of her doing so. Jenna does not trust leaving her son with her boyfriend because he really does not spend any time with him or seem to be concerned with him. Her boyfriend only is concerned with Jenna taking care of his needs by cleaning and cooking. Jenna’s mother and her get into arguments over Jenna asking her mother to watch her son.
She is always suspicious whenever he doesn’t answer her calls. She becomes especially crazed when she calls him while she is high. She becomes very paranoid and is always ranting about how he is probably off sleeping another girl and that he never cared about her. She still seems to think she can control it and when she goes to her brother’s baseball game her mother notices and tells her she should leave immediately and to not come back unless she shapes up. Kristina and her boyfriend finally get an apartment together and the also move in Kristina’s son, against her mother’s wishes.
Her father comes home late at night or gets lost and doesn’t come at all because of his drinking obsession. Her dad is regretful and is always promising change, but Sam can see through his hollow phony heart. Her mother repeatedly keeps believing her father and makes excuses for him, but Sam learns these words mean nothing and isolates herself from her father even more. She is constantly trying to protect her little brother named Luke from her dad because he doesn’t apprehend what is going on. She wants to reveal these secrets to someone, but she can’t tell her friends because she assumes that they will criticize her.
She explains the struggle of only having little food there because it was the ones her parents brought her during the weekends but she had to save it in order for it to last. When she finally gets back from the 45 day camp stay, her father has made up his mind up his mind and wants him and his family to leave
At one point she goes into a state of shock and depression because Yuniors father told her he was coming home to see them but he never showed up. This made their mother sad and she left to live with her other relatives for a while. When she came back she acted like she had a lot of feelings built of inside her and they were waiting to burst
