The Effects of the Virtual World

545 Words3 Pages
Nowadays the line between the virtual and real world is starting to disappear. The lines between them are starting to blur even faster. Thanks to electronic tools and wide distribution of the internet, people can always be in contact with the virtual world. Alas, the things people are constantly connected to, will always effect them one way or another. Those effects can be both good and bad. The virtual world allows people to be in touch with everything and everyone. Mutual communication has become superficial, talking is replaced with writing on keyboard and old face to face meeting is replaced with video calls. It is not rare that a person, who has few friends in real life, has met a lot of different people and made lots on friends on social sites thanks to the internet. The internet is also a huge source of information and you can always learn something new there. It is easy to broaden horizons without even leaving the house. Books are available online and can be read on computers and tablets. There is no need to visit the library. All of these things are making people comfortable and lazy. The tendency to get everything faster will grow and to the point where people don’t need to leave their homes to perform their errands. Social skills will suffer because people have the impression that using social media can successfully replace face to face meetings. The virtual world is making people vulnerable to trends and marketing. As for the future, these effects are likely to delve further. The slim line between virtual and tangible will blur even more. An unpractical, comfortable and superficial worldview will be the result. Like everything else, the virtual world has it’s own pros and cons. Without noticing a person can “drown” so deep into it and forget the real life around him. The unproductive hours spent sitting in front of the computer screen fly by fast.
