The television show I watched and listen to was "The Doctors". Boonie Bernstein was a spokesperson on the show. She explain how she experience pain in her leg and ignored the problem because she was a athlete and thought it was a pulled muscle until weeks later she began having trouble breathing, swelling and redness of her leg. When she went to the hospital, she was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT). The medical terms used in the topic was deep vein thrombosis (DVT), DVT is common but serious medical condition. It occurs when a thrombus (blood clot) forms in one of the large veins, usually in the lower limbs leading to partially or complete blocked circulation. This condition can result in pulmonary embolism (PE) and even death if not diagnosed and treated effectively and pulmonary embolism, a blood clot in the lungs. It is a major complication of deep–vein thrombosis (DVT). A DVT blood clot has the potential to move into the lungs and block circulation to the lung. Blood clot develops in deep vein, usually in the leg. DVT and PE used a blood thinner known as anticoagulant. Bonnie and Dr. Travis demonstrated how DVT develops, the risk factors to look out for and treatment option. Traveling, long flights and car rides, sitting long periods, family history, homo therapy and trauma to the veins can cause blood clots. DVT and PE can strike anyone. Symptoms to look for are pain, swelling, redness, tenderness, skin that is warm to the touch and shortness of breath. The initial treatment of both DVT and PE is anticoagulants, also known as "blood thinners." This medication does not actually thin blood; instead, it blocks the action of various clotting and prevents blood clots from growing in order to allow the body’s own nature processes to destroy clots over time.
