The Diverse Nature of Psychology Paper Psychology has been around for a long time now, it has helped many people understand the mind and the way it works. There have been many uses to psychology and many different great psychologist have helped pave the way for us to learn this discipline better including; Sigmund Freud (1856-1936), Alfred Alder (1870-1937), and Carl Jung (1875-1961) (Goodwin, 2005). Additionally like Ivan Pavlov (1849-1936), Wilhelm Wundt (1832-1929), and John Watson (1878-1958), also helped with their big influences to the conversion of psychology from philosophy to science (Goodwin, 2005). Today psychology delivers a diverse assortment of dedicated attention that gives more chances alternating from clinical psychology to industrial psychology, and beyond. There are 54 subdivisions of psychology within the American Psychological Association (APA), comprising diverse areas of practice and research. What's more, some of the APA's subdivisions are further divided into smaller subdivisions. Cognitive Psychology is the study of human thought processes and cognitions. Cognitive psychologists study topics such as attention, memory, perception, decision-making, problem solving, and language acquisition. Social Psychology is a discipline that uses scientific methods to study social influence, social perception, and social interaction. Social psychology studies diverse subjects including group behavior, social perception, leadership, nonverbal behavior, conformity, aggression, and prejudice (APA, 2010). Cognitive psychology can be used for a variety of things when it comes to helping others in this area. We need to use problem solving, decision making, and attention everyday of our lives, so if someone is needed help in this department it can be a great deal of help.
