The Graduate – Assignment One Youth can be defined as an early period of existence or development. One who is still of youth must be accompanied by an adult, whether it is a parent or a guardian, to guide one through this immature period of time and teach one the way of life. In today’s society, it is quite ironic that most teenagers believe that their lives are extremely difficult and cannot wait to break away from the arms of their family and loved ones. This inexperienced mindset can lead a child down a path of isolation towards the real world where he/she will be tested with nobody there to look up to. Scotty McCreery, a teenage country singer and former American Idol winner, performs a song called “Back on the Ground” which illustrates how sometimes in life we lose a sense of what things really mean the most to us.
In later adulthood, this role changes into other people making decisions for you and being the advocate of a person. When in later adulthood a person goes into becoming the “grandparent” to others children rather than being the “parent” to their own children, for example. One doesn’t hold much power or significance to their own life as they once did. Many people have negative views about growing older and many have their own opinions on it. “However, people in many other parts of the world think and feel positively about aging and assign a positive value and meaningful role to the aging members of their communities” (Williford, 1998, p.4).
Coming of Age Coming of Age Tiffany Baker Psychology 101 Teacher: Jennifer Fitch By Tiffany Baker Psychology 101 Teacher: Jennifer Fitch By Abstract Coming of Age can be tough especially entering the adult world! Sometimes growing up you don’t realize how easy you have it as a kid. As you grow up you go through obstacles that “mold” and “shape” you into the person you become. I can’t say that I would want to be a kid again but there are somethings I would like to change about my past. Things happen in your life for a reason, some good and some bad.
"The Lesson" Contrary to what people believe, maturity is not something that automatically comes to a person as they grow older. Maturity is something that is gradually obtained through rigorous work and responsibilities. As humans, we all travel through the road of maturity, some managing it better than others. It is caused and affected by many different situations such as poverty, location, age, and feelings. In addition, one reaches maturity by removing that egotistical state of mind and truly obtained when one is thoughtful of others and puts aside one-self for the benefit of the rest.
They also seemed to have lost much of the value system that most of us took for granted growing up. By examining the roles of children in the past, we may be able to trace the source of the problems that we are having with today's troubled youth. In olden days, children were treated as small adults and given many of the same responsibilities that were shouldered by their parents. Youngsters worked side by side with their parents in the fields as soon as they could walk. Children serving as soldiers were not uncommon in some countries.
In many Islamic countries, man’s childhood ends sooner then it does in other nations. This is because parents educate their children, especially boys, to be brave, fearless and responsible. Such education makes children to give up their childhood, and in exchange to that, adults see them as responsible for their actions and respectful individuals. Becoming an adult is a part of every human’s life and every one crosses the edge from childhood to adulthood sooner or later. As Thomas Jefferson stated in the “Declaration of Independence”, all men are created equal.
Children often had their childhood cut short as they had to move into adulthood early. Teenagers found jobs when their parents could
Child Development The growing process of a normal child requires certain aspects in order to develop into a healthy child. Some of the aspects are love, affection, and care from their family. The parents play a big role in their child’s development and through the steps they take during childhood, the child becomes emotionally and mentally stable. In Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safron Foer, the reader views the world through Oskar Schell’s point of view, and sees how the death of his father, and the absence of his mother affect his emotional and mental development connecting to his thoughts and actions. Jean Piaget is a psychologist and studies the development of children.
They tend to drop out of school at around age 15 in order to help raise younger siblings, and sometimes their own child. They have no encouragement in the home to continue their education and are forced to work in poor paying jobs or as migrant workers. Those that get the opportunity to get their GED and continue to get a college education tend to be insecure and shy because their language skills are not at the same level as that were fortunate to receive a continuously good education. Most, not all, tend to get depressed, stressed, and overwhelmed, and some tend to once again dropout because they have no support. Those that get lucky and have a support group tent to make it to the end in order to receive their diploma or certificate and attain a better paying job.
For the little girl in our story both sides of it effected her. Using care based ethics, she was given the chance to live in a caring home where she grew to know them as her parents. When we used rules based ethics, it helped her in the beginning and one could say hurt her in the end. She was forced to move back in with her birth parents after 9 years of not knowing them. The “parents” that she did know had no choice in keeping her or not.
