Name: Trần Thị A Phương Group: Topic: The differences between Britain’s and Vietnam’s educational system. Whenever making mention of Britain, students do usually think of it educational system. With the long lasting of many famous universities, such as Oxbridge, Cambridge, Oxford and so forth demonstrated that Britain educational system is the best in comparison with many other countries in general and with Vietnam in particular. In Britain, nearly all school woks 5 days per week and there is no half day. Meanwhile, in Vietnam, students have to go to school 6 days, including both half and full day. There is, however, a small number of school just perform 5 days. Especially, in Britain, day starts at 9 and finishes at 3 or 4 everyday. Thus, students have no short break except 75 or 60 minutes break for lunch. On the contrary, in Vietnam, there are two sections, including morning and afternoon. In the morning, classes’ time is at 7, finishes at 11 or 11:15 and starts from 1 to 5 in the afternoon. Moreover, there are many short breaks about 5 minutes after every class. In Vietnam, teaching methods delivered in the public system are teacher-oriented. Class discussions are uncommon, and students are expected to be studious and passively attentive in the classroom. This method is a manifestation of Confucian culture, and is a sharp contrast British pedagogy, where interaction and debate are more prominent. In Britain, teacher usually picks a topic and lets the students talk and discuss about it. While the whole class is debating the topic, no one has a “wrong” opinion and every point of view is welcomed and fairly evaluated. Even when a student makes unpersuasive statements, the teacher tries to avoid rejecting his speech too strongly. As a result, not only Vietnamese but also all other countries think highly of Britain teaching and learning
