Michelle Steffen Professor Heflin English 121 1 February 2012 The Day My Life Changed Forever February 12, 2007, was the day my life changed forever. It started out like any normal day. I woke up at 3:40am, stumbled to the bathroom to start my morning routine. I brushed my hair and put it in a ponytail. I brushed my teeth, as I did every morning, with the nasty wintergreen toothpaste. I put on my Bass Pro Shops work shirt, long johns, and jeans because I knew it was going to be cold at work. I look at the clock and it was already 4:20am. I thought to myself, “Crap I’m late for work!” I hurried up and put my socks and shoes on and ran out the door. I arrived to work right on time. Clocked in and started my day like any normal day… unloading trucks. The first truck arrived around five o’clock. It was freezing inside the tractor trailer. My nose was running or maybe it was icicles hanging from my nose. After unloading the first truck I started to feel a little nauseous. I thought it was because I didn’t eat any breakfast. As my colleagues and I started inventory on the truck we had just unloaded, the nauseous feeling got to be unbearable. I ran to the restroom to splash water on my face and get a drink of water. That didn’t help. I finally couldn’t take nauseous feeling anymore and gave in to the urge to vomit. I thought to myself, “There is no way! This can’t mean what I think it means. I’m only 18! I can’t possibly be pregnant!” For the next six hours, about every forty-five minutes, I was in the bathroom throwing up. I finished my work day at 1:30pm and went home as always. Instead of taking a nap like I normally do, something told me I needed to go get a pregnancy test. So, I went to Wal-Mart to do just that. I bought Clear Blue digital pregnancy test 3 pack. I wanted to be sure. When I arrived home, I was terrified. My mind started to race, “What if
