Niaja F. African Amer. Lit The Day I Was Born On February 12th, 1994 I was born. Early that morning my mother woke up with the feeling of a full bladder, and the gush of her water breaking. She made a few phone calls to everyone telling them it is time and then was off to the hospital with her parents. Once she checked into the hospital she was hooked up to monitors and cords for this and cords for that and being asked hundreds of questions. After being put on medication to make her contractions stronger and a pretty painful but un-forgetful labor I was born. She say was one of the happiest moments in her life when she held me in her arms for the first time. Early that morning she woke up with the urge to go to the bathroom and a gush of fluid came out, which is nothing new, she was 8 months pregnant. Once she was in the room the nurse came in and took her blood pressure and hooked her up to contraction monitors that stayed on through the whole labor. Finally after being at the hospital about an hour Shina called and said that she is on her way and that she slept through her phone calls. Once her Shina arrived at the hospital the nurse started an IV and put pitocin in it so she would have stronger contractions and make labor move a little faster. She started have strong contractions about 40 minutes after it was given to her and that’s when she asked if she could have an epidermal. An epidural is something that is inserted into your back between the vertebrae to numb you from the waist down to the middle of your thighs.
