The Corruption of Political Morals

Hundreds of thousands of men and women have died throughout the centuries to keep America the freedom-loving country it is today. By being blessed with the basic principles of justice and liberty, Americans are granted an amazing opportunity that citizens of most other countries are not - the ability to have a say in the government. Each citizen is allotted one vote to state their opinion based on what they believe. But how do individuals make their decision as to what is best for the country? Or rather, do desires for their own success even at the expense of others trump what is best for humankind? After careful examination, it can be concluded that Americans hold their political beliefs based on which set of morals gives them the most money, as well as what opinions their neighbors hold, rather than what they truly believe to be morally correct.

First, to understand how the political environment affects the opinions of American citizens, it is important to understand certain definitions that will be used in the research process. Political environment is comprised of the local political atmosphere of a state and regional areas, such as the East or West Coast. Beliefs will be referred to only in the general sense of political opinion; the definitions will mean either a conservative or liberal view as a whole and not on individual issues. Furthermore, a liberal opinion will be used synonymously with Democrat and is one that focuses on the rich supporting the poor, individual freedom, strong centralized government, and spending money to offer services to the public. A conservative opinion will be synonymous with being Republican and focuses on each citizen supporting themselves, moral absolutes, a weak centralized government, and conserving money to be given back to individual citizens via tax breaks.
