“I wish you could see my hut, Celie. I love it. Unlike our school, which is square, and unlike our church, which doesn’t have walls-at least during the dry season-my hut is round, walled, with a round roof leaf root. It is twenty steps across the middle and fits me to a T” (Walker 155). I love that this passage describes that Nettie is so thankful and appreciates the small space she has been given, even if it is only twenty steps across the middle. I think that people take advantage and don’t appreciate what they have. The people of the African village that Nettie is in are so grateful for what they have and I think a lot of people could learn from them. “Oh, Celie, unbelief is a terrible thing. And so is the hurt we cause others unknowingly” (Walker 180). For many people an absence of belief is an overwhelming thing. This could relate to religion or a sense that someone does not believe in what they say or what they do. By not having faith in a person to listen and believe what they are saying you may unknowingly hurt them in ways that you will never know and will never fully understand. “She say, Celie, tell the truth, have you ever found God in church? I never did. I just found a bunch of folks hoping for him to show. Any God I ever felt in church I brought with me. And I think all the other folks did too. They come to church to share God, not to find god” (Walker 188). In some ways I agree with Shug but in others I disagree. I agree that church is about sharing God with others. On the other hand, I disagree with her when she says that people don’t go to church to find God. To someone who doesn’t have a relationship with God, they’re going to have to come to church with an open mind and heart. If they came to church with no God in their heart, then going to church would be sort of pointless. “God is inside you and inside everybody else. You come into the
