CHEF LIFE 1 THE CHEF LIFE IN CALLIE MAE’S KITCHEN ANIKA GLOVER STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS September 30, 2012 CHEF LIFE 2 THE CHEF LIFE IN CALLIE MAE’S KITCHEN Growing up in a large family, I spent many days eating at my aunt’s house. I can remember her kitchen being the first one I helped to prepare a meal for the household. Usually it would be just me learning the different types of meat and vegetables that go well together in a meal. Learning to cook in my aunt’s kitchen was a fun, and quite exciting experience. I know that being in the kitchen at home is not the same as being in the kitchen in a classroom setting. My aunt and mother have been a real inspiration to me to pursue a career as a chef of my own restaurant. They taught me several basics of cooking such as combining seasons and ingredients to create personal sauces and dressings for meat and meal preparations to taste well together. It makes cooking interesting and my aunt taught me how to be creative and not afraid to try different and new things to see what works. The most important thing I learned from my family is that cooking must come from the heart. If you do not love or have a passion for the career that you choose, you full potential will not be reached. Through research and hearsay, I was made aware of the opportunities that are available to me to pursue a career as a chef. I now understand the personal characteristics I need to possess, the training and education that are required, and qualities needed to be obtained to create an orderly and flourishing work environment. A chef must possess significant characteristics to maintain a smooth running kitchen.
