The Cheesecake factory is a well-known restaurant by many people. It was first established in 1972, in Los Angeles, CA. As their reputation and sales grew they were able to establish more than 170 restaurants. The restaurant specializes in making of over 30 varieties of Cheesecake which has made them famous. Their menu consists of over 200 large portioned dishes to choose from (The Cheesecake Factory, 2013). The Cheesecake Factory also offers a family friendly environment to their customers. While doing the S.W.O.T (strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats) analysis for The Cheesecake Factory, there were several strengths and weaknesses presented within the company. Through proper utilization of this analysis, the company should be able to gain a competitive advantage. While evaluating the strengths of the restaurant, it is clearly their elaborate menu. On their website the company states, “The Cheesecake Factory menu features more than 200 menu selections made fresh from scratch each day — using only the highest quality ingredients — which combines to create our remarkable tastes (The Cheesecake Factory, 2013).” Their main focus is cheesecake, which they adequately supply in 30 different flavors. The variety of large proportioned dishes provided to their customers has proven to be very beneficial for this company. This attracts a large range of customers including tourists and families. It is their menu that differentiates them from their competitors. The Cheesecake Factory is categorized as a monopolistic competition. Monopolistic competition is a “market structure with many competitors selling differentiated products (Kelly, McGowen & Williams, pg. 45).” With proper utilization of this advantage it allows the restaurant to have control over pricing the products they are offering.
