The Changing Weather Intro to Environmental Science 142 21 October, 2005 Abstract There are many changes currently taking place on our planet with its weather and its effects upon the environment. Many believe that these changes in weather patterns will adversely affect the environment that we all live in; others believe that it is merely a natural cycle that the atmosphere follows. There is a lack of any concrete proof to go either way on this subject and it may never be fully understood. The Changing Weather The concept of global warming has been around for many years now, and some people think that we are beginning to see effects of this right now, though the most devastating effects could be yet to come. There are other, more severe, consequences as well, though they more long term and not in our lifetime, they are still very important and worth noting. If the trends of global warming were to continue at the current rate, it would be likely that winter as we know it would be nearly non-existent within the next hundred years (Drye). The lack of a normal winter also implies that the summers we currently have would also change, becoming drastically warmer through all parts of the world. Changes such as these would be very difficult for all forms of life to adapt to at such a rapid rate. Winters throughout the world would become much warmer and drier; many places would likely not receive any snow, and perhaps get heat waves instead. Summers would hold the most noticeable change for many places, as there would be extended periods of heat, perhaps doubling the length of summer in some areas, as well as having higher average temperatures from day to day during the summer
