Suicide is the eighth leading cause of death in the U.S. And the third leading cause of death among Americans youth. Over the last 100 years, suicide in the U.S. Has out-numbered homicide by at least 3 to 2. Almost 4 times as many Americans died by suicide during the Vietnam War era as died in the course of military action. The federal government has shown concern for high suicide rates in this country since at least the beginning of the 20th century.

Many of these victims were Amanda Todd, Tyler Clementi, Olivia Penpraze, Rehtaeha Parsons and many more that ended their own lives because of bullying. Bullying usually starts off as teasing but then turns into continuous teasing and mocking. According to WHO, someone around the globe commits suicide every forty seconds.

The report states that fire claims the lives of 12,000 people every year in the U.S., making it the second highest cause of accidental death. That isn’t the only human toll, because there are also 300,000 people who are injured by fire on an annual basis. The authors expound on the injuries by detailing the painful experiences of patients who must endure numerous plastic and reconstructive surgeries. The price of destructive fire is estimated at over $11 billion a year in the U.S. Loss of businesses leads to loss of jobs, which is a price that is beyond calculation.

Even though alarmingly high, they reported that 12% of high school aged students’ complete suicide. Suicide rates are on the rise for persona aged 10-14 years. Limitations: There aren’t clear outlines to firm up the statistics.
Some of those reasons being the crime rates, the costs of what could happen, and injuries. Firearm injuries have killed more than 28,000 Americans each year since 1972 (Ruben). In 2007, thirty-one thousand two hundred twenty four Americans died due to homicides, suicides, and accidental shootings. Accidental shootings happen quite often. In 2007, around seventy thousand Americans were hospitalized due to accidental shootings.
To examine this issue one should look at the following: Firstly, I would love to see the death rates in Alcohol related deaths go down drastically. The U.S has the highest drinking age in the world and it has been estimated to have saved 17,000 lives. More people would get to live till their oldest. Secondly, the highest deaths among teens are road crashes, and 2 out of the 5 teens had been drinking. Thirdly, how would you feel driving to your child’s funeral knowing it could have been prevented?
