Montresor is a dangerous and evil person in The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe. In this short story, Montresor is sensitive, trickey, and evil. Montresor is sensitive because he is going to kill Fortunato because he insulted him. In the story, Poe also shows us through the indirect characterization methods of Montresor’s own actions, words, and looks. When Montresor is ready to go to the catacomb with Fortunato, he puts “on a mask of black silk” and wraps himself up in “a roquelaire.” He wears the mask and the roquelaire because it hides his identity.
Ghosts and Graveyards “Frustration, partly. Rage, partly. The Enemy was invisible. They were ghosts. They killed us with land mines and booby traps; they disappeared in the night, or into the tunnels, or into the elephant grass and bamboo” (199n21).
However, the book Inferno only focuses on his travels through the circles of Hell. As Dante views punishments in Hell, he often faints from the gruesomeness of them. Over time, his reaction to torture changes as he reflects them as a justice for sins. Another main character, Virgil, is a ghost that guides Dante through the depths of Hell. Virgil receives orders from an angel to lead Dante through Hell on a spiritual journey.

The human emotions often represented in the Romantic Era of literature are clearly displayed in the novel Frankenstein through the monster itself. The monsters emotions are what rule him. He displays every negative human quality that each of us wishes didn't exist, such as rage, jealousy, and hatred. Chapter 20 is a prime example of this, in which we can see how he demonstrates human emotion in a negative as well as a positive aspect. “"The wretch saw me destroy the creation whose future existence he depended on happiness and with a howl of devilish despair and revenge, withdrew."
Both narrators tell a tale climaxing in the underground; in TBC it is a descent into the basement and in TCOA it is a darker, deeper drop into the family catacombs. Alcohol plays a prominent role in both stories, however, in TBC alcohol is a multiplier to the unstable mind, shoving him into the depth of insanity. In TCOA, alcohol is a player only to the victim, whose drunken mind could not interpret the warnings that he was given leading up to his murder. Ego was also present in both stories and in both they led to the demise of characters. Ego brought down the unnamed narrator in TBC and it also assisted Montresor in the manipulation of Fortuando into the depth of the catacombs.
Victor Frankenstein want revenge on the monster for killing many of his loved ones. “When I reflected on his crimes and malice, my hatred and revenge burst all bounds of moderation.” Victor feels like that the murders are partially his fault, since he is the one who created the monster in the first place. (Poe, Cask 202) in the end he feels no guilt and says “In Pace Requiescat” (Poe, Cask
“ I will cause fear....do I swear inextinguishable hatred....I will work at your destruction....you shall curse the hour of your birth....fiendish rage animated him ”. (Pages 133 and 134 Lines 32-3) Between these two passages, it is seen that the creature is loving and evil at the same time. The creature was made to love and to be able to have feelings just as a human being; despite this, he ultimately chooses the path of evil instead of good. To pick a life of evil instead of good is terrible. This further shows that the wretch is a monster because a life full of revenge and evil is
