Literary critic Joshua Rothman describes the novel as it is based on dreams. He says that, “Much of “The Great Gatsby” is spent watching as many dreams and fantasies as possible, including Gatsby’s, rise and fall like the tides” (Rothman). This passage illustrate that the whole novel is based on illusion. As Gatsby is the main character of the novel, his believe in his dreams made the novel an illusion according to him. He also points out Gatsby’s life as a fantasy including his rise and fall.
Symbolism of the Moths in In the Time of the Butterflies Moths have always been famous for congregating around light. They are always found to be blindly swarming around a patio light or street lamb, drawn by the artificial warmth. In the novel In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez, moths are mentioned many times in relation to different sources of light. The light of Trujillo is an artificial light, one that kills if you get to close. While the light of the Mirabal sisters and the revolution is a true light, one that radiates warmth and draws the people of the Dominican Republic to them.
(Poe) At the end, the narrator admits that his soul is trapped under the raven's shadow and shall be lifted, “Nevermore.”. (Poe) This poem is a fantastic representation of life in America during the 1800's. During the Romantic period, it validated strong emotion, placing emphasis on emotions like apprehension, horror and terror, and awe. In “The Raven”, you can see that Poe was putting emphasis on awe, as the narrator was amazed by the Raven at first. “But the raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only, That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
The use of similes also gives the reader a clearer image of what this may have looked like by giving them objects to compare each aspect of the birds to. For example Dillard compares the motion of the birds as a group to “whirling like smoke” and the sound of the birds flying by to the sound of “a million shook rugs.” Dillard also uses personification in the last paragraph to describe her reaction to the bird’s flight. The expression “my lungs roared,” uses personification to describe how she felt blown away and was left breathless by the unexpected beauty of the flock of starlings flying
Also, when regarding a historical event, the film production is irresponsible for educational function as they use dramatic license all the time. From this the audience can then link what is happening with the rest of the song revealing that the composer, after making love is taken to his/her’s ‘special place’ – a place of dreams. The distinctively visual is used throughout peter goldsworthys novel ' maestro ' and the painting By edward munch ' the scream ' 1893. there is some overlap between the distinctively visual techniques used by these writers and painters. This is done through the use of visual imagery, metaphor, exaggeration and the use of colour. The extended metaphor of peter goldsworthy “to describe the world is always to simplify its texture, to coarsen the weave: to lose the particular in general”, portrays that once you try to represent something, you lose something of its real life essence and that the act of writing about something in the world simplifies it. Both texts revel important insights into human experiences by showing the reader how the character
The setting, the symbols of the incredible flow of art and the auditory imagery of the melancholy ideas all make up a different level than classical poetry. Poe has put a good challenge into readers mind in the poem “The Raven.”

When Candide and his valet Cacambo first arrived they were surprised at what they saw. Why were they surprised, what did they see?
Although their titles are almost identical, Virginia Woolf’s “The Death of The Moth” and Annie Dillard’s “Death of a Moth” convey two separate themes. From two different time periods, Woolf and Dillard both formulate essays about the final seconds of the life of a moth, but they address many different and distinguishable meanings. In the context of Woolf’s essay, she addresses death and the fight that parallels with it. On the other hand, Dillard addresses new life in a moth, who is more than just a little bug. In “The Death of the Moth”, Woolf took on such a small and simple creature to represent something that was much bigger than anyone that has ever lived on this Earth.
