The bone collector The Bone Collector by Jeffrey Deaver is a story about a paralyzed criminologist who, with the help of a beautiful sidekick, Amelia must uncover clues left by a psychotic killer known only as the “Bone Collector”, before he claims another victim. This book is chillingly fascinating and horrifyingly realistic. Full of grueling investigations and terrible discoveries, it brings new meaning to the phrase “chilled to the bone.”Its starts out when a man and a women in the summer of the late 90’s in New York City awaits their chauffeur at the airport ,but he never shows up. Therefore instead they decide to take a taxi to their destination. As they ride in the taxi they tell the driver where to take them but he completely ignores them. They insisted he knew where he was going to they drive down into this dark alley alone. The man and women began to fuss as if this is all happening too fast. The man turns around but is wearing a stocking mask around his face. They began to scream for help but no one can hear them. The feeling of uselessness runs throughout “The Bone Collector”. The main character Lincoln Rhyme wants to commit suicide because he feels useless. The main female, protagonist Amelia Sachs, feels useless after she stops helping with the case, so much so that she berates herself and finally returns to give her help. The serial killer kidnaps people, kills them, but leaves clues for the police to investigate. In "The Bone Collector", Lincoln Rhyme is a retired head of forensics officer for the New York police department. Rhyme had been forced to retire from his job after a terrible accident. He had been working on a case in regards to a serial killer who was targeting police officers, and was at the scene of one of the murders when a metal support beam fell, and paralyzed him from the neck down.
