Lambert Ms. Bryant English IV 26 February 2013 The Benefits of Martial Arts Training People all over the world workout, train, exercise, and participate in sports for many different reasons. Some choose to join gyms; others pursue more non-traditional ways to stay in shape. In the last century, many individuals have looked for ways to surpass their physical limitations and nurture the total health and well being of the body and mind. Arguably, the training of martial arts is perhaps one of the more unique and productive programs of exercise that allow this type of whole-body experience (“Martial Arts Benefits”). Martial arts provide people with physical, psychological, and self-defense benefits. Out of all of the available ways to workout in this world, martial arts are among the most powerful (“Spice Up Your Workout”). This type of training is an activity that helps create integrity of the body. Over an extended amount of time, people will realize they have great coordination, agility, and balance. In traditional American sports, participants do a lot of “warming the bench”, in other words, they get a lot of down-time (“Martial Arts Benefits”). Martial arts consist of aerobic, as well as, anaerobic exercises. Generally, workout regimes revolve around focusing on a center area of the body. The whole body undergoes strength and performance training in martial art (Ronsick). Exercise drills will target the arms, legs, upper body, abdominals, and flattening the tummy (“Spice Up Your Workout”). Overall, muscles will equally be toned (Jackson). Fast reflexes are not required to participate in martial arts. However, reflexes will be formed and give a significant advantage.
