The process of developing early literacy in children would not be possible without phonological awareness. In phonological awareness one is able to hear a particular word and break it up into syllables so as to spell the word by just listening to the letter sound, this gives one the ability to identify letters and its corresponding sounds. A child who understands phonological awareness has it easy when learning to read as stated in Strickland 1998. In order for a child to comprehend oral language, he/she should have the ability to point out phonemes, syllables and rhymes. To aid in this development, the use of nursery rhyme is a great strategy and has found to be very effective.
The condition or quality of being knowledgeable in a particular subject or field. So when we talk about literacy do we actually mean English? In this case yes we do, but this is not always the case. According to the School the aims of literacy are: • To raise students expectations of achievement and therefore raise standards. • To develop students confidence and self-expression and therefore self-esteem.
Evaluate the effectiveness of business information and its communication as key contributors to the success of an organisation, using examples Llantarnam School Verbal Verbal is one of the key factor of business information as it can make communication a lot easier and quicker to understand and there will also be a less chance of misunderstanding a set of instruction than other type of communications. Some of the communication used in schools are interview, telephone conversations. Llantarnam School uses verbal communication in many occasions like assembly where teachers speaks to the students delivering important messages by face to face conversations. I personally think this is the best way to communicate but there are many problems of this communication like language barrier where I myself sometime find it difficult to understand what teachers are saying as English is not my primary language, the person who you want to talk to might not be present. Written communication This communication is also used very often in Llantarnam School.
A.1.a. Pre-K Strengths Because of the ever changing demographics in our system this can be very beneficial and has some great advantages with our program. With more non-English speaking children coming into our system this is encouraging our teachers to learn another language. In return it is helping with the language barrier we are facing in our current days. Our system could also look into hiring more teachers with the added benefit of speaking multiple languages and creating more jobs in our area.
(Jaruszewicz, 2012, s1.3) I feel that there are many benefits of having DAP in the classrooms. Our children would have a better comprehension and retention because the material is presented in a manner that is suited to their developmental stage. Children and adults can learn together. By following the child’s lead it takes us in a more interesting direction then having a standard curriculum. I also feel that by having DAP there are fewer struggles to get our children to engage in the program.
Author: Patricia Velasco Statement 1: “Dual language bilingual education tends to separate the languages quickly, arguing that language separation gives more opportunities to fully develop two “languages”, both the majority as well as minority language” Page: 177 Students benefit from the opportunity to develop and learn through their native language as well as English, and English speakers achieve well academically in an immersion environment. The bilingual environment supports development of both languages and enhances students' self-esteem and cross-cultural understanding. When separating both languages students tend to learn quickly because they are not overwhelm with a lot of information at once. Author: Ofelia Garcia Statement:
Hood calls the need for great improvement by starting instruction in elementary school language programs, where the teachers should also be more qualified. The students are more apt to retain what they learn when they start so young, as seen in European models of foreign language
This can lead to the child gaining the ability to communicate with others. They may be able to learn sign language or develop the use of PECS to a better degree that will enable them to get their needs met more effectively. In the longer term this can reduce anxiety levels and behaviours because they are able to make themselves understood more easily. It is also important for me to have a good relationship with other people too. We all have the child’s best interests at heart and want to do our best to give that child the best opportunities available to them.
Professor Kamerman ENG 301 28 June 2009 Accelerated Reader Program: Benefit or Detriment Reading is vital to literacy; knowing how to read is necessary and assures success in most fields of work. Reading helps with writing as well; a person who reads more than they play games or watch television will find it much easier to come up with the words necessary to express their thoughts and ideas in writing. Teaching children to read is the beginning to providing them with the tools they need for a successful life, academically and in their careers. The purpose here is to explore the Accelerated Reader/Reading Renaissance (AR/RR) program and discuss whether it truly is beneficial to students by providing them with the opportunity to progress
Students are ideally native of both languages and integrated together giving them ample opportunities to practice and learn throughout the day. The goals of the program are to include full biliterate proficiencies¸ content-area achievement at or above grade level, and multicultural competencies. (Rodrigruez) Dual Language programs are more beneficial to start in elementary school because students tend to be able to learn a second language faster at a younger age. They are more capable of learning the phonemes (any of the abstract units of the phonetic system of a language that correspond to a set of similar speech sounds (Merriam), morphemes (a distinctive collocation of phonemes (Merriam)) and the syntax of the languages. They are less absorbed and eager to learn.
