Green tea is a type of dietary supplement (herbal remedy) that is harvested and then quickly preserved. Whereas black tealeaves are allowed to oxidize after they are picked, green tealeaves are immediately heated to prevent oxidation. (Oxidation is a natural process. It's the same thing that happens when you slice an apple and it begins to turn brown and taste sweeter as it is exposed to oxygen.) Green teas are processed with either steam heat or with dry heat (such as pan firing, which is similar to stir frying in a wok, or a quick baking process in an oven). This processing is different from the processing for other tea types, including black tea, oolong tea, white tea and pu-erh tea. Now, there is emerging evidence that the chemical properties of green Tea may impact cellular mechanisms in our body. Proposed health uses for green tea include potentially protective effects against some diseases such as prostate cancer, heart disease and cardiovascular diseases. It also affect the generation of new brain cells linked to improved memory and spatial learning. Besides that, the chemicals properties of green tea could benefits in building stronger bones and some promote for weight loss. Green tea is not FDA-approved. Green tea usually contains caffeine, but some green tea products are decaffeinated. Seek the advice of their health care professional prior to taking green tea regularly for health purposes. Chinese scientists, Professor Bai’s research team zeroed in on the organic chemical EGCG, (epigallocatechin-3gallate), a key property of green tea. Researchers have long known that EGCG is a potent anti-oxidant and wanted to see if the natural compound has a specific, beneficial effect against age-related degenerative diseases, especially those that cause problems with brain function. They proposed that EGCG undergo a process called neurogenesis which can improve
