The Forefront Of Technology Of Music The Beatles have made a significant difference on many aspects in America since they first appeared on the Ed Sullivan show on February 7, 1964. They came at a time when America needed a change. Once they arrived in the United States, in February of 1964, it was very clear that they were here to stay. No group could be, or ever be, what the Beatles have been to this country. The one way the Beatles changed America is that they impacted the way we visually perceive music. The Beatles were always at the forefront of the technology of music (Bluebottle). They made what they called "Promotional Films" to introduce their music. Some say that the Beatles were the first to make music videos. There is some controversy over who really made the first music video. The Beatles may, or may not, have invented the music video, but they certainly made it popular and defined it: "There have been many claims on who made the first music video, with groups such as the Beatles, Who and Kinks often cited as examples. Some have claimed that Ricky Nelson made the first music video in 1961. However, three years earlier in 1958, the Big Bopper actually recorded three music videos for his songs: ‘Chantilly Lace’, ‘Big Bopper's Wedding’, and ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. Plus, he also coined the term ‘rock video’ in a printed interview in 1959. According to Bill Griggs, editor of the ‘Rockin' 50s’ music magazine. (Ronnie) The Beatles were already popular throughout Europe and after winning over America, "Beatlemania" was starting to take a toll on them. It was impossible for the Beatles to appear on every television show to promote their music. They also did not want to do live appearances, because they could not even hear themselves during these performances, let alone if anyone else could.
