Maid Marnita Collins El Everest University Student October 6, 2012 Professor Brooks ENC 1101 Composition 1-58 Smoking ban Smoking cigarettes in public places should be banned; for health, and well fair of all Non-Smokers. I am for the ban of not being able to smoke in public places. My reasons will come clear to each of you. The reason for writing about this topic is; cigarette smoke is very harmful to those that don’t smoke as well as those that do. There has been a lot of research about this topic. All about how cigarettes effect non-smokers health and rights to have fresh clean air. Banning public smoking is a good place to start. One of the articles I read from the Journal of the American College of Cardiology; (September 29, 2009) issue. If we ban smoking in public places it could reduce heart attacks by as much as 26 percent a year. If we could ban all smoking in public places in a year as many as 154,000 heart attacks could be prevented. “Even breathing low doses of cigarette smoke can increase ones risk of a heart attack” said David Meyers, MD, MPH ; professor of Cardiology and Preventive Medicine. There are other illnesses that come with this nasty habit. There are many that get Lung Cancer and Emphysema of the lungs; it was also found that Direct Smoke doubles the risk of heart attack Second hand smoke increases the risk by 30 percent. The ban is working so far less heart attacks are being reported; since the ban of public smoking. There are a lot of children that were getting sick before the ban.
