In chapter 6, writer Kavita Mehta details the greatest actors and actresses of Bollywood over the past century. These actors are those that inspired millions of viewers, many impoverished who could find new hope and excitement from watching spectacular movies. These often three-hour epics inspired and awed their viewers, including songs that people could sing and dance along with. The best of them all were those who changed the film industry and inspired the most people with their roles. These few actors and actresses have throughout time been the face of Indian cinema and have starred in many successful films. Whether or not they performed their own stunts, or sung their own songs their roles have echoed over the past decades. The all time greatest actors and actresses of Bollywood, those who pioneered change and touched many spectators include Amitabh Bachchan, Kunda Lal Saigal, Prithviraj Kapoor, Durga Khote, and Rekha. Amitabh Harivansh Bachchan, also known as the “Big B” is an Indian film actor who was born October 11, 1942 in Allahabad, United Provinces, British India. He is recognized as one of the biggest and most influential actors of Indian cinema. His nickname comes from the fact that he is over six feet tall, which is very unusual for someone of Indian descent. He first gained recognition in the early 70s as the “angry young man” of Bollywood and over the last forty years has starred in over 180 films.
