The Age to Legally Drink Alcohol in Australia should be 21 Agree Hi everyone, my names Albar and my issue that I’m talking about today is that the legal age to be able to drink alcohol legally should be risen to 21 from 18 and I agree with it. The debate whether to increase the drinking age to 21 has heavily widened in today’s society. In Australia the legal age to be able to drive without supervision is 21 so why is the drinking age still at 18. By not having this law we are heavily endangering the lives of all motorists, as teenagers often go out and drink on weekends and want to save on taxis so they drive home, drunk. Putting not just their own lives at risk but also everyone’s lives who sit behind the wheel of a car. FIJI and Indonesia have this law. So does Sri Lanka and, of course, the United States and now it is time for Australia to also follow with this law Paragraph 2 topic-Drink Driving Drink driving is a blight on our civilization. An average of 17,000 individuals die each year in drink driving related deaths. The numbers have come down slightly , for example, in 2010 10,228 individuals died from drink driving related fatalities, drink driving continues to be an enormously important public safety issue. What is more, drinking and driving is strongly correlated with youth. After the age of 25, the drink driving rates rapidly decrease. It seems quite plausible that were alcohol to be illegal for those under the age of 18, the 15.1% of 18 to 20 year olds who drink before getting behind the wheel would decrease significantly. The fatalities caused by drinking and driving would be likely to fall as well. There are so many other things a person could be doing and spending their money on then something as pointless and inconsequential as alcohol.
